Windshield Repairs & Your Auto Insurance

How many times have you been to get your car washed and someone from an auto glass repair company approaches you and says they can fix your windshield for free? Sounds like a good idea to many people, but remember if something sounds to good to be true it probably is.  What the glass technician will then continue to do is fix your windshield but will definitely file a claim with your insurance company.  If you find yourself consistently doing this beware. When you file excessive auto glass claims this could be a reason for your insurance company to drop you and it may be difficult to find another insurance company to insure you.  Yes, this has happened! So before you get those free repairs, you may want to ask your insurance agent how this will affect you.

Universal Health Insurance

In a state where health care is in a state of emergency, as over 20% of the population is uninsured, New Mexico’s Governor Richardson, is proposing that all residents of New Mexico be covered by health insurance regardless of their abiltiy to pay.  If the Governor’s plan is accepted, all citizens would be required to have health insurance. This raises many questions including the following:

1) How would mandatory insurance be enforced?
2) How does this affect employers who currently do not offer insurance for their employees?
3) Could this plan cause health insurance premiums to rise significantly for those that are already insured?
4) How would more governmental regulations affect physicians who are currently practicing in the state?

Health insurance is certainly a need that many people just cannot afford these days.  Many go without needed medical care and necessary medications so that they can provide meals for their families. With this being said, is government intervention the answer to assisting people get the medical care that they require?

Insurance for Teens

If you are the parents of a teenager who is going to be driving soon, you will want to encourage your teen to get good grades!  What do grades and driving have in common? Well, almost all insurance companies offer significant discounts for students who maintain good grades (usually 3.0 and above GPA). This discount is given from the moment you buy auto insurance for your teen if you bring your  most recent report card to the insurance agent.  Some insurance companies will also give an additional discount to your teen, if they complete specific steps that the insurance company asks them to do.  An example of this; both State Farm and Farmers Insurance ask the teen driver to watch a video and complete a questionnaire on the video they watched. State Farm also asks teen drivers to keep a driving record for one month.  Once the month is over, they are to discuss the driving record with the insurance agent.

These are just a couple of suggestions to help keep the cost of insuring teen drivers down.  In addition to keeping the costs down, there are many other advantages of maintaining good grades!
